Tile flooring = yes, size matters
A magical element that immediately transforms your space into one of high style, sophistication, and value, tile comes in an almost united number of sizes, shapes, and designs. However, it takes some careful consideration to get the right one for your project, including size. While large format tiles are trending, there will be times when you want, and need, to use a smaller one.
At our flooring company, we know you can get almost any size in a floor tile; for example, just a tiny sample of what you can find in the inventory at our tile shop in includes: Emser, Dunham Collection, 12 X 23; Brickwork from Dal-Tile; 2 X 8; American Olean, Concrete Chic, 12 X 12; Interceramic, Aquarelle Ceramic, 10 X 12 and Cathedral Heights by Marazzi, 6 X 36.
Small or large, that is the question
Large format pieces make a room look more prominent because of fewer visual breaks, such as grout lines. That works well on shower walls, especially when the color is white or a pale, subtle tone.
However, the bathroom floor may be a different story, especially if you have kids or senior residents where safety is an issue. That's one of the reasons the tiny mosaic tiles are so popular. As small as 1 X 1, these durable, mold/mildew resistant, and often glass-coated pieces have so many grout lines, grip or traction is increased.
Mix and match because that can make for a stunning statement, as well as a practical one. For example, you might use a mosaic on the bathroom floor, and a larger one on walls and tub/shower surrounds.
Wood-look tiles: trending hot
These combine the beauty of wood with the practicality of tile. Through Inkjet Technology, raised grains and color variations are possible. The tiles are cut into planks of various sizes, anywhere from six to eight inches wide with 24, 36, and 48 inches.
